| My mother
built a career for herself as a scientist in metallurgical and
mechanical engineering. She has won many government awards and
designed a lot of inventions, and she is the author of many textbooks.
She is still working at MGTY as an associate professor. |

I went to school when I was six, and I was a good pupil. This gave
me a chance to participate in several contests that allowed me to
travel to several countries. When I was 13 I was selected to represent
Russia in Japan as a Peace Child. We sang and danced in Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. I started to learn English when I was seven, and then
I had a chance to polish it during a monthlong stay in London. This
helped me to win a language contest held by Moscow State University
and enabled me to continue my studies in America as an exchange
student. |

In January 1993, I became a student in Springbrook High School in
Maryland. In June I graduated with honors and was accepted by the
University of Maryland, Baltimore County, when I was only 16. |
