After much thought and discussion with friends and family, I decided to take the next step and shoot a Playmate test. That was the beginning of what would be years of shooting, traveling and, of course, a lot of fun!
After my Playmate test, I started shooting various pictorials and cover ideas before traveling to Los Angeles to shoot my Centerfold. I then returned to St. Louis to shoot my hometown pics. We also shot the July 1983 cover in town. My pictorial was based on my connection with racehorses. At that time, I owned several horses with two friends. We kept our horses at a local track and, in an effort to save money, I decided to try my hand at exercising these beasts! After all, I had a pony when I was a little girl! Playboy decided that this would make a great pictorial, so there I was on a saddle that was not more than a piece of leather with stirrups! On the day of the shoot, it was cold and very windy, but sunny. I was riding and everything was great...until, coming down the back stretch at a full gallop, a sudden gust of wind blew a bunch of leaves in old Sea Biscuit's face! He spooked and bucked -- and when I came to I was looking up at a very concerned Steve Wayda! He was relieved when I stood, dusted myself off, and put my hat back on. Then he said, "Ruth, how 'bout just one more roll?" |
