Before Janet Jones married Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, she was an actress with parts in several movies under her belt, including Annie in 1982, Staying Alive in 1983, Snow White Live in 1980, The Beastmaster in 1982, The Flamingo Kid, her first real big break, in 1984, and American Anthem, co-starring gymnast Mitch Gaylord, in 1986.
Her March 1987 Playboy cover piqued plenty of interest, too. But it was her marriage to “The Great One” that moved her into a new spotlight when they tied the knot in 1988.
Janet and Wayne met on the set of Dance Feature, a dance variety show, in the midst of her climb through the acting world in 1984, but they didn’t become an item until they met again in 1987. Once married, Janet’s focus shifted mostly to their home life. Her movie credits since then include A League of their Own and Alpha Dog.
The couple has five children: two girls, three boys. At least one of them has taken after her mom. Daughter Paulina has followed a bit in mom’s footsteps, entering the entertainment biz (Paulina is an aspiring singer) and posing for various magazines, including Flare (which Janet appeared on the cover of herself, four months pregnant with Paulina at the time). “We look like twins! I love it,” Paulina told Flare. “She’s beautiful.”
“He treats me like not just a wife but his best friend, so that’s really all I need,” Janet, who sometimes goes as Janet Jones Gretzky, told Chatelaine in 2007. “That and my kids being healthy. Other than that, I’m just trying to make everybody else happy.”
Janet supports MOVE International, a charity that seeks to improve the lives of people with disabilities.
