Karen McDougal, Playboy’s Miss December 1997, was named Playmate of the Year 1998. Born in Gary, Indiana, she moved to Michigan with her family when she was in fourth grade. She played softball and volleyball in high school and was on the cheerleading squad. Karen graduated high school in 1989 and went on to Ferris State University.
After college Karen moved to Detroit to teach pre-kindergarten. In her spare time she started to work out three days a week, and a friend suggested that she enter the Venus Swimwear contest at a local nightclub. She won the first round, won the Michigan state finals, and went on to the finals in Florida, where she met a Playboy photographer. She flew to Los Angeles to test for Playboy, and a few weeks later she got the call that she was going to be Miss December 1997.
In addition to appearing in Playboy, Karen found success as a fitness model. She has appeared on multiple magazine covers, and was the first woman on the cover of Men’s Fitness. She starred in several Playboy video documentaries and can be seen in the movies Charlie’s Angels, Joe Dirt, The Arena, Grind, The Girl Next Door, and Stiletto. She has also appeared on the TV shows Jake in Progress, Lovespring International, and Anger Management.
Karen shared her turn-ons with Playboy: “blue eyes, bubble butts (rounded glutes), strawberries and champagne at the hot tub.” She’s turned off by “negativity, bitchy people, and people who think they are ‘players.’” She revealed, “I respond to a man who is sensitive to a woman’s needs, a man who is creative romantically, yet who knows how to be wild at the same time.” Her idea of the perfect date: “a candlelight dinner in Paris, then a walk on the beach. At dusk, a hot-air balloon ride, looking down at the city lights. Then my man tucks me into bed.”
