About Kate Hudson

It might be a huge chick flick, but Kate Hudson had a side that appealed to the guys, too, as Andie in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Specifically, her retreating backside as she sauntered away in a daringly low-back yellow dress. The scene created waves in the fashion industry and in movie memories.

Equally notable: her starring role in the 2000 drama-comedy Almost Famous, for which she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award. She’s since starred in You, Me and Dupree, Bride Wars, and The Skeleton Key, among others.

For the latter, she had to lose 60 pounds for her role as a caregiver in a haunted plantation house. “I am by nature an active person, a dancer … a thin person with a high metabolism, so fortunately I don’t have to work at it,” she explained to The Guardian about her weight loss.

Of course, she’s devoted to her art, and she’s following in some impressive footsteps. Kate is the daughter of Academy Award-winner Goldie Hawn and actor and comedian Bill Hudson (who Kate never really knew and didn’t consider a father). She was raised by Goldie and actor Kurt Russell, her longtime boyfriend. It should come as no surprise that when she graduated from high school, she turned down an acceptance at New York University to instead pursue an acting career. (Her brother, Oliver Hudson, is also an actor.)

Kate has had two long-term relationships, both of which resulted in sons—a marriage to The Black Crowes’ frontman Chris Robinson and an engagement to Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy.

Although she hasn’t been on the big screen as much lately, Kate has been devoting a good deal of her time to Fabletics, a women’s activewear line she co-founded. shows Kate lounging in cropped cargo leggings and biking in shorts and a sports bra. “We wanted to make sure it was real athletic wear you can wear, whether you are an athlete or somebody who is really starting out that part of their life,” Kate told Elle. “I always wanted a legging you can wear to work out or throw some boots on and go out in.”
