About Kelly Gallagher
Kelly Gallagher is Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for September 1994. Born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, she followed her mother’s passion for interior decorating and attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Kelly received her bachelor’s degree in both interior and graphic design and has achieved success as a world-renowned interior designer.
Kelly’s foray into modeling came when a scout for Playboy noticed her as she was waiting tables in Los Angeles. After being named Miss September 1994, Kelly featured in the Playboy films Playboy Video Playmate Calendar 1996, Playboy: Playmate Profile Video Collection Featuring Miss September, and Playboy: Red Hot Redheads.
At the time of her spread, Kelly told Playboy, “I have no problem with my sexuality. I’m completely uninhibited. Everybody has a body, and I want to show mine. God blessed me.” After posing for Playboy, Kelly took her earnings to jumpstart her own interior design firm, Kelly Wearstler Interior Design. Her breakout gig was revamping the interior of the Avalon, a late 1940s-era hotel in Beverly Hills, which launched her career as a “maximalist” interior design aficionado.
Kelly has also published several interior design themed books: “Modern Glamour: The Art of Unexpected Style,” “Domicilum Decoratus,” “Hue,” and “Rhapsody,” even landing herself on the bestsellers list.
Kelly’s interior design expertise led to a judge spot for two seasons on Bravo’s competition show Top Design. In 2014 Kelly was awarded the Design Icon Award by California Home + Design magazine and is included in TIME Style & Design’s elite “Design 100” group.
In addition to interior design, Kelly is highly regarded in the fashion industry. In 2007 Vogue magazine put her on their list of Best Dressed. Kelly has also designed her own ready-to-wear apparel and accessory line.
With her growing success away from the camera, Kelly was asked if she had any regrets posing for Playboy. Kelly said, “No, not at all. It was, you know, it’s a little different now. But no, I did it. I took the pictures. I didn’t, you know, hang out at, like the Mansion and things. It was just, I did it and that was it.”
She enjoys surfing, taking photos for her blog MyVibeMyLife, exploring museums, and spending time with her family. She often donates her time as an animal advocacy ambassador for the Best Friends Animal Society. Kelly has also opened her doors to host a house party to raise funds for the Children’s Action Network to help find homes for children waiting for an adoptive family.
