Ali Larter
TV's hottest hero talks about her on-screen split personality, discusses chest size, learns to pole dance and explains why her ideal man has to be a sports fan
THE 21ST QUESTION:
Is Heroes a hit because it's a metaphor for modern times or a mirror of the human condition?
LARTER:
It's struck a chord because people want to believe. The fantasy element gives people hope that there's something out there that can make things right. On the other hand, most of the characters are very real-life, and viewers can relate to people who struggle to pay the bills, get their kids to school. I guess you could read the human condition into it, go into Jungian theory, the shadow self. We try to rise above ourselves yet can't let go of the animal side. We repress stuff; we black out that which we don't want to remember. Do they really go away or do they stay inside of us and manifest themselves in different areas of our life? [laughs] All this deep talk ... Don't make me sound silly!
