A word to the wise: Numerous studies have shown that clitoral stimulation -- not the size of the man's penis -- is the key to sexual satisfaction in women. The length of every man's penis is normal, technically, with the exception of those smaller than 2.8 inches erect, a condition known as micropenis. If you suspect you suffer from that condition, visit a urologist or an endocrinologist to determine whether there is a physiological or hormonal cause. Any product, pill or exercise program you see advertised online or in print that promises to increase your length is bogus, and potentially dangerous. Don't waste your money.

Some men go beyond experimenting with questionable products and shell out thousands of dollars for cosmetic penis enlargement surgery. For example, thousands of men have had globs of fat injected into their shafts to give them more girth. However, because fat can't be added to the head, the entire organ appears mishapen, i.e. a thick shaft with a tiny head. The fat also is likely to be reabsorbed, meaning you'll need to have more surgeries. You also may suffer from complications such as the "hairy doughnut effect."

Other men pay surgeons to snip the ligament that supports the penis when it becomes erect. Once this is done, the "inner penis" can be tugged out of the body. Don't fall for that one. With lengthening surgery, many men see no gain in size because scar tissue reunites the two halves of the ligament. In some cases the penis even becomes smaller. Any increase in length is usually apparent only when the penis is soft, which works great if you're just trying to impress other guys in the locker room but doesn't make any difference when it counts. Other risks include permanent numbness and impotence. One reconstructive surgeon says the many men who are unhappy with the results of the surgery expect him to work miracles to repair their newly grotesque organs. But, he warns, "there's no going back." In rare cases, the procedure can even be deadly. In 1994, a cosmetic surgeon in Miami who pioneered fat injection was convicted of manslaughter after a patient bled to death during an enlargement.

If normal just isn't enough, consider these nontoxic methods to make your penis bigger: (1) Many sex-toy shops sell extenders, which are rubber sleeves that fit over the end of the penis for added length. Some vibrate. (2) Trim your pubic hair. (3) Lose weight. As your gut recedes, you'll see more. (4) Measure from the bottom. When scientists measure erections, they place the ruler along the top. This isn't science, so place the ruler on the underside, against your balls. Presto - the extra inch you never thought you had.
