How do you plan a bachelor party?

We think the idea of a bachelor party as one last wild night out with the boys is a bit passé, but if it's going to happen, it should reflect the interests and preferences of the groom-to-be. Since you've been chosen for the task, we assume you're a close friend who has some idea of what type of evening would be most appropriate and most enjoyable. If a quiet dinner out followed by some social drinking at the neighborhood pub fits the bill, so be it. You also know his wife-to-be, so you can guess whether ordering a strip-o-gram or dragging him to a men's club is going to lead to unbelievable grief or good-natured kidding. (Hiring a prostitute is never a good idea. Nor, for that matter, is an evening that results in the tattooing of certain private parts.) If your budget is limited, there's no harm in asking the other invited guests to chip in. If you're really stumped, ask the groom what he'd like to do. We've heard of some guys who plan weekend-long male bonding rites, coupled with the sport of choice. Call your buddies and check into a ski resort or fishing camp, or challenge one another to a marathon golf outing at Boulder or Pebble Beach. There's nothing like guilt-free golf to set the stage for a life of chores and social obligations.
