His death, in 2007, represented the loss of one of the pillars of men's fashion, but Gianfranco Ferré -- or rather his legacy -- remains important. Ferré's clothing is lauded for its simple elegance, and this straightforward cardigan reminds us that over a dress shirt a knit can stand in for a sports jacket. Generally, the rule for unbuttoning a shirt is "one if by day, two if by night," but you can improvise while seaside.
