Marilyn Cole, Playboy’s Miss January 1972, went on to become the first-ever British Playmate of the Year in 1973. Marilyn’s Playboy career is full of firsts. Her 1972 centerfold holds the distinction of being the first-ever full-frontal nudity in the magazine.
Born in Portsmouth, England, Marilyn got her start as a Bunny at London’s Playboy Club after a friend told her, “There is a club. All you have to do is smile and you will earn a lot of money.” Marilyn ended up marrying the manager of that club, Victor Lownes, in 1984. She also appeared in the April 1984 and April 1989 issues of Playboy. In 2014 she appeared in a special Playmate pictorial for New York magazine.
Marilyn revealed to Playboy that she has a taste for “French cuisine, wine, and Scotch.” She’s turned on by “cats” and turned off by “rude people.”
After posing for Playboy, Marilyn appeared on the cover of Roxy Music’s 1973 album Stranded. She was featured in the 2004 video Playboy: 50 Years of Playmates, played herself on The Girls Next Door, and had roles in a few short films. She works as a journalist.
