She went on to appear in Beautiful Girls, Everyone Says I Love You, and Mars Attacks! In 1997 she played the title role in The Diary of Anne Frank on Broadway. She achieved international fame when she played Queen Amidala in the Star Wars prequels. Other film roles include Anywhere but Here, Where the Heart Is, Cold Mountain, Garden State, Closer, V for Vendetta, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, The Other Boleyn Girl, Brothers, Black Swan, and Thor.

Her directorial debut, Eve, played at the Venice International Film Festival in 2008. That same year, she directed a segment of New York, I Love You. In 2010, she won a Golden Globe, SAG Award, BAFTA Award, BFCA Award, and an Academy Award for her work on Black Swan.

Aside from her acting career, Natalie is socially and politically active. She became a vegetarian when she was eight years old and began living a vegan lifestyle in 2009. Natalie dated folk singer Devendra Banhart after starring in one of his music videos, but their relationship ended in 2008. While working on Black Swan, Natalie met ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, and they started dating. They became engaged in 2010, and in 2011 Natalie gave birth to their son, Aleph. The couple married in August 2012. In 2014, they announced plans to relocate to Paris.
