26. Penn State
Coach:
Joe Paterno, 42 years and counting with a 363-121-3 lifetime record.
Last year:
9-4
Offense:
Things that have to happen if the Nittany Lions are to be successful on offense this season: Senior quarterback Anthony Morelli has to be more consistent. He's shown flashes of brilliance interrupted by moments of mediocrity: wide receiver Derrick Williams has to play up to his potential; running back Austin Scott needs to run hard, often and effectively so that Penn State can control the ball and the clock better than it did last year.
Defense:
The big challenge on defense is replacing Mr. Everything linebacker Paul Posluszny. Fortunately for Joe Pa, linebacker Dan Connor decided to stick around Happy Valley for one more season and very well may eclipse the performance of Posluszny. Off-the-field legal problems for cornerback Anthony Scirrotto could jeopardize what should have been one of Paterno's best defenses in years.
Schedule:
Favorable. The tough games, with the exception of Michigan, are all at Happy Valley.
Prediction:
8-4
