31. California

Coach:
Jeff Tedfor

Last year:
10-3. Cal defeated Texas A&M (45-10) in the Holiday Bowl. It was the first time in school history that Cal advanced to a bowl game four years in a row.

Offense: The strength of the Golden Bears this season is on this side of the ball. Nate Longshore returns for his junior year after passing for over 3,000 yards last season. Running back Marshawn Lynch has graduated to the NFL. However, three-year backup Justin Forsett is ready to carry the load. The offensive line, led by all-conference center Alex Mack, is outstanding and so is the receiving corps with Playboy All-America DeSean Jackson doubling as a punt returner.

Defense: If Tedford's team has a weakness, this is it. Three starters on the d-line are gone including standout Brandon Mebane. Cornerback Daymeion Hughes' slot in the secondary will be filled by a redshirt freshman. Tedford has recruited well so there is young talent ready to fill the holes.

Schedule: Tennessee and USC both have to travel to Berkeley this year.

Prediction: 7-5
