8-5, including a 44-36 win over Houston in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Offense: You can be certain that Spurrier will maximize the talents of quarterback Blake Mitchell, who has started 17 games over the past two seasons and passed for over 4,000 yards. The Gamecocks return all their running backs from last season but will miss wide receiver Sidney Rice. The offensive line lost three starters and that could be an issue unless some younger players step up big.

Defense: Ten returning starters should translate into a stronger defense than last season. Jasper Brinkley is outstanding at middle linebacker and end Eric Norwood and linebacker Rodney Paulk are both coming off strong freshman performances.

Schedule: Very tough. There are road games at Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Prediction: Spurrier has dreams of winning the SEC East one of these seasons but it's not likely to happen this year. 7-5
