36. Clemson

Coach:
Tommy Bowden

Last year:
8-5

Offense: Who is going to be able to get the job done at quarterback? Junior Cullen Harper will get the start in the Tiger's opener against Florida State, but he'll be hard-pressed by freshman Willy Korn, a bundle of talent who only needs experience. James Davis and C.J. Spiller are both strong running backs. However, only Playboy All-America Barry Richardson is a proven entity on the offensive line.

Defense: Despite the loss of Gaines Adams to the NFL, Clemson's defense will be the strength of this year's team. Phillip Merling at defensive end and pass rushing specialist Ricky Sapp are both future stars. Free safety Chris Clemmons, perhaps the fastest player on a quick defense, is a terrific tackler in the open field.

Schedule: If son Tommy can beat Daddy Bobby in the season opener against FSU, the Tigers will have it easy until game four against NC State.

Prediction: Too many good things have to happen for Clemson to finish better than 7-5.
