38. Texas Tech

Coach:
Mike Leach

Last year:
8-4. The Red Raiders defeated Minnesota (44-41) in the Insight Bowl after trailing 38-7 with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Offense: Graham Harrell is Tech's first returning starting quarterback since Kliff Kingsbury in 2002. He's a very accurate passer, completing over 66 percent of his passes last season. Louis Vasquez (6'6", 341 pounds) is a monster at offensive guard. Shannon Woods is back at running back after garnering all-conference honors last season.

Defense: The defense took a hit with the graduation of three defensive linemen, two linebackers and a cornerback. Leach believes he has good talent but realizes that the cards will have to fall just right in order for Tech to overcome a lack of experience. Some talented players who redshirted last season could make the difference.

Schedule: Four of Tech's first five games are against relatively weak opponents. Score one for the Red Raiders. However, Tech does not match up well toward the end of the season when it has to face Missouri and Texas on the road and Oklahoma at home in the regular season finale.

Prediction: 7-5
