28. California

Coach:
Jeff Tedford has posted winning records in each of his six seasons at Berkeley.

Last season:
7-6. Cal started strong, winning its first five games. Then the bottom dropped out with the Bears dropping six of their last eight contests.

Studs: Nate Longshore should return to form after injuring his ankle in a win against Oregon that moved Cal to 5-0. He was hindered the remainder of the season. If Longshore has problems, Tedford has a solid backup in sophomore Kevin Riley. Whoever is at quarterback will be taking snaps from Playboy All America center Alex Mack. Cal's defense will be built around three outstanding linebackers: Zack Follett, Worrell Williams and Anthony Felder.

Scoop: Tedford will need to come up with a new group of receivers as his top three wide-outs from last year are gone. Running back is also a question. And the Bears will certainly miss the all-around offensive threat posed by DeSean Jackson as a receiver, runner and kick returner. Jackson left a year early for the NFL.

Prediction: 8-4
