49. Notre Dame
Coach:
For better or worse, it's Charlie Weis. The Irish won 19 games under Weis in his first two seasons but last year's train wreck of a season left the faithful wondering if signing Weis to a long-term contract wasn't a mistake.
Last season:
A dismal 3-9 which included losses to both Navy and Air Force.
Studs:
Quarterback Jimmy Clausen certainly is supposed to be a stud. After coming out of high school as the most over-hyped quarterback since Ron Powlus, Clausen proved to be talented but fallible. With some experience under his belt, he will get better. In fact, he has the chance to be very good if the rest of the offense can step up their game. David Grimes will be his go-to receiver and James Aldridge will get the nod at starting tailback.
Scoop:
Charlie Weis still has major rebuilding to accomplish before the Irish can think about fighting their way back into national football prominence.
Prediction:
7-5
