College Bar of the Month - The Liquor Store - Northeastern University
College Bar of the Month

Home to Boston's only mechanical bull, the Liquor Store corrals the sexiest riders from Northeastern University and schools all over the city. On busy weekend nights, a crowd of hundreds of Boston's best-looking bar-goers waits impatiently outside one of the city's hottest nightspots, hoping to get a ride.

The Scene: The Liquor Store might not be where you meet "Miss Right," but it definitely lays all the groundwork for you to meet "Miss Right Now." The place is shadowy, and the lights hit girls in all the right spots. Shelves on the walls near the entrance are lined with bottles of the finest alcohol, caged and lit from behind, paying homage to the club's name.

Guests glide past the bar near the entrance and around a corner to discover a massive club area that includes several bars, plush couches, a dance floor and Boston's one and only mechanical bull. "Honestly, I can't believe they pay me to do this," says Ryan McDonald, a University of Massachusetts business marketing major and resident bull driver. "I see lots of skin...lots of skin."

Girls at the Bar: The female patrons at the Liquor Store are definitely some of Boston's finest, and there is no question that amongst the sea of tight black pants, short skirts and stiletto heels, there are girls looking for a good time. Brian, a very lucky pre-med major who had his arm slung around a beautiful young woman, said, "The girls here are bootylicious. I mean, I have my girl, but the girls here are bootylicious." Britney, the Boston University student who was on his arm, grinned devilishly as she said, "They have plenty of dark corners here." Danny Licata, a senior from Suffolk University, summed up the charming clientele best when he said, "The girls are good looking, and the bull is a big plus. What happens on the bull stays on the bull."

Dress Code: To get into the Liquor Store, you need to dress to impress. No hats, sneakers, work boots, hiking boots, athletic wear, ripped, torn or baggy jeans are allowed. Wearing shorts, sandals or T-shirts to the door will keep you outside as well. Guys should go with a collared shirt.

When to Go: Thursdays are known as "Pay Day Thursdays" at the Liquor Store. Girls who arrive before 11 p.m. receive free admission and a $10 or $20 paycheck to turn in for cash later that night. Guess which bar that cash normally gets reinvested in?

At the Bar: For those who need a little liquid courage to ride the bull, or those just looking for a cool drink, the Liquor Store serves 24-ounce Coronas in brown paper bags and massive frozen drinks, in addition to the standard bar favorites.
