Playmate Mei Ling Lam gives you a deliciously foolproof Mother's Day plan.
Did you know that one of the most important holidays is approaching? C’mon, I know all of you haven't forgotten Mother’s Day! It’s the only day of the year that is dedicated entirely to one of the most important women in our lives, the woman who embarrasses us to death at some point and who may drive us crazy, but we can't help but to love her. She deserves to be treated like a queen every day, but you should really treat her well on Mother’s Day!
If you’re still stuck for ideas, remember to stick to the basics. After all these years, you should know what your mother likes, and if not, shame on you! Start the day with surprising her with breakfast at her place. Do something simple like pancakes, eggs and bacon, or a fruit and yogurt parfait. Whether you prepare her breakfast of choice at home or you pick it up at her favorite local coffee shop, she is bound to love being surprised by her special guy.
Cater to your mom, it’s her day! Tell her how you want to take care of her for once and cook dinner. Ask her specific questions about what she wants so you’re sure to get it just right. If you feel she is hesitant and giving you the age-old “it doesn't matter" response, make her something you know she’s enjoyed in the past. If she is feeling uncertain about one of the options, she either knows you can't cook it or doesn't want you to have to cook so don’t be embarrassed to ask for help from her or the delivery man!
Reassure her that you got this under control. At this point, you have chosen the meat for the entrée. Be sure it’s something your mom enjoys eating and you’re not opting for, say, her famous pork roast. Grilling may be an option for you, so be sure to check out the Dos and Don'ts of Barbequing I wrote here!
If you’re still feeling like she's hesitant about you cooking, invite her to join you on a night on the town. Spending time together is what she ultimately wants! There are going to be a lot of places that are already booked up, so you’re going to have to be creative. Why not order to go and eat in a park!
Sweets are always good to top off the delicious meal, whether you ended up preparing it yourself or not. You could simply get her a box of chocolates, bake her a cake, or prepare a small fruit tray if she wants something light. My mother really enjoys a fruit dip I make along with apples, bananas and strawberries. To make the dip, you simply need eight ounces of cream cheese and a jar of marshmallow creme. Whip the two ingredients together till light and fluffy. It’s very sweet, simple and satisfying.
One thing I ask from you guys is to not forget a card, a single rose or a bouquet of flowers. It’s just the right thing to do!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful moms out there! And to my mother, I love you to the moon and back, and as Tupac once said, "You are appreciated!"
