Fiery-haired bombshell Angela Ryan tells Playboy.com her burlesque inspirations and biggest turn-ons.
Playboy.com: Do you prefer blondes, brunettes or
I am always drawn to redheads first! Both my mom and sister are redheads as well so I have been surrounded by them my whole life. We command attention!
Playboy.com: How would you describe your look?
Feminine, sultry and classic but sometimes with an edge.
Playboy.com: You work full time as a fetish/pinup model and burlesque performer. What attracted you to this career?
I started modeling and performing as a creative outlet with no intentions of
making it a career. My first shoot ever was a topless bondage shoot in 2001.
After that I began to branch out and create a wide variety of fetish imagery. I
wasn't considered pinup until later on in my career. I am fond of variety and
didn't want to limit myself as a model. Pinup comes very naturally to me and it’s
fun to recreate traditional imagery or to put a modern spin on it and make it
Playboy.com: Is it true you started the first burlesque troupe in Dallas, Texas?
In 2004 there wasn't any burlesque in Dallas. I got together with Jami Deadly, a Marilyn Monroe impersonator, and we decided to start a troupe called On The Fringe. We added brunette dominatrix Athena Fatale and began doing some of the first neoburlesque shows in town!
Playboy.com: What is your favorite song to perform to?
I mostly dance to modern music as opposed to traditional bump-and-grind instrumentals. I love doing ’80s routines where I get to be Tawny Kitaen in the "Here I Go Again" Whitesnake video, Lita Ford in "Kiss Me Deadly" or Joan Jett in "Do You Wanna Touch Me."
Playboy.com: What are you channeling during a burlesque performance?
My inner sex kitten. I love getting a reaction from the audience and that fuels me to give the best performance that I can. I'm also trying to remember my routine.
Playboy.com: Which sex icon do you model yourself after most?
Bettie Page was a big inspiration to me because she moves so seamlessly between pinup, fetish and bondage. Dita Von Teese is hugely influential as well. She has taken burlesque to the next level of awareness around the world.
Playboy.com: How did you become involved with Playboy.com?
I was lucky enough to shoot with photographer Holly Randall a few years back. She mentioned that she was shooting for Playboy.com and I asked her to submit me as a potential model. Needless to say, I'm overjoyed they accepted me and proud of the photos we took!
Playboy.com: What are the biggest challenges you face as a fetish/pinup model?
Being typecast. I love to do all kinds of modeling but I am not always given the chance to because people only look at one style of images. I have a unique look but I am very adaptable.
Playboy.com: What is your favorite fetish?
Shoes, feet and stockings/pantyhose. There is nothing sexier than a high arch in stockings and an extreme high heel!
Playboy.com: Tell us your idea of a perfect date.
I have never been a typical date type person. I prefer casual and unpretentious locations that you can actually chat and get to know the person.
Playboy.com:What are your biggest turn-ons?
Genuine realness, confidence, ambition, nice teeth and hands.
Playboy.com:If you could have dinner with any five people, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
David Bowie, Perry Farrell, Dita Von Teese, Lucille Ball and Elvira. Can you imagine what sexy, funny and intellectual conversations we would have?!
Playboy.com: What are your goals for the coming months?
Hopefully to be working with Playboy more and traveling to a city near you to perform and model.
