While it’s no secret we here at Playboy have a knack for discovering beautiful talent that gets the world excited, this week’s woman to watch was personally chosen by Academy Award–winning film producer Roger Corman to be his new “It girl.”
Among his lengthy list of recruits, Corman has discovered the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Jack Nicholson and Sandra Bullock — definitely making our newest Femme on Fire a contender to keep our eye on.
Hailing from Georgia, the gorgeous southern belle Jena Sims made headlines as Miss Teen Georgia, as well as during her run for Miss Teen USA in 2007. In her feature film debut, Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader, our Femme heats up the screen with her spunky personality and her nude adventures in 3D. She sat down with us before tomorrow’s premiere to chat about her role and stealing the show.
Playboy.com: Tell us about Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader; how did that come about?
Sims: I was a cheerleader in high school and middle school and I did a backflip in the audition and also a little kick. I think my cheerleading experience helped me out. But I was a brunette when I auditioned, so when the director came in he was like, “You’re going to have to go blonde.” I was nervous because I’ve never been that blonde before. But they called me on the way home from the audition.
Playboy.com: Did you watch Attack of The 50 Foot Woman before starting filming?
Sims: Oh yes. There’s actually two versions of that film: there’s the original, then there’s the remake, which Daryl Hannah did. I’ve only seen the Daryl Hannah version, and this going to sound so lame: every night that I filmed I watched that movie before I went to sleep. It was an inspiration for me. I look up to Daryl Hannah so much.
Playboy.com: If you were 50 feet tall, what would you do first?
Sims: I would definitely walk up to the Empire State Building and just wave into the windows and freak people out. I think it would be really funny.
Playboy.com: What size bra does a 50-foot cheerleader need?
Sims: [Laughs] It’s a one-of-a-kind size; the alphabet doesn’t do it justice.
Playboy.com: You said you were sad that they cut the nerd scenes at the San Diego Comic-Con viewing. Do you consider yourself a nerd?
Sims: I am! Once a nerd, always a nerd. I read graphic novels, I was always into books. I was really excited I got to channel the nerd persona.
Playboy.com: Were you nervous stripping down for your film debut?
Sims: I was incredibly nervous…and it was 3D! I had never seen my — what do I want to call them? My lovely breasts on a 50-foot screen! But no one was disrespectful and everybody was complimentary, so I’m no longer nervous about it!
Playboy.com: So it wasn’t weird for you to see your chest in 3D?
Sims: No! It was fantastic! [laughs]
Playboy.com: What have you gleaned from Roger Corman so far?
Sims: It was life-changing. On set people would bend over backwards to do what he asked. Even at Comic-Con you could see how much people respect him. He’s known for discovering so many stars — I hope to be on that list one day.
Playboy.com: What was the most difficult part of being Miss Teen Georgia?
Sims: It’s a full-time job. I guess eating healthy and working out for the swimsuit portion. I missed a lot of school and my senior trip, so a hard part was prioritizing things.
Playboy.com: How bad are the bitch fights behind the scenes at pageants?
Sims: It’s the mothers that are the worst part; the kids are fine. [laughs]
Playboy.com: Tell us about your foundation, Pageant of Hope.
Sims: It puts on a pageant (for children with cancer) where everyone leaves as a winner. We do their hair, we do their makeup, we basically take them through the entire pageant process and treat them like kings and queens for the day. It’s about raising inner beauty and self-esteem. I just got back from Sydney, Australia in June; I’ve been in South Africa, Cuba and all over the United States with it.
Playboy.com: You did a theater show, It’s Just Sex; what was that about?
Sims: That’s hilarious; you’re the first person to bring that up. I had a supporting role — it sort of profiles three couples. I play a hooker, and this man trying to spice up his life hires (me) and (his wife) freaks out. I had like three lines, but I don’t remember, it’s been so long!
Playboy.com: Lightning round:
Favorite city? Cape Town, South Africa.
Drink? Vodka soda.
Shot? Patron Silver.
Pickup line? Man oh man, it’s so dirty: “That dress is very becoming on you; if I was that dress I would be coming on you too!” [laughs] It’s terrible!
Guilty pleasure song? Right now — “Call Me Maybe.”
Secret talent? I’m a hot tea connoisseur.
Dream Car? Aston Martin.
Embarrassing moment? Slipped on a pile of dog crap.
Playboy.com: Tell us about your new project.
Sims: I just finished an untitled project [with] the guys behind the Scary Movie franchise. I also play a hooker!
Playboy.com: What was your first Playboy?
Sims: This is my first but hopefully not only [Playboy appearance]! I stumbled across my stepbrother’s collection when I was way too young. But one I can remember is Lindsey Gayle Evans, Miss October 2009 — she’s a former pageant girl.
Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader premieres tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET on EPIXHD. Check out a clip below!
