There’s something peaceful, nay, therapeutic about blowing the brains out of a grove of zombies in the light of a warm summer’s day. We may discriminate against those who play on their phones while they’re in the company of others, but we do like seeing fellow gamers enjoying a pint on the patio while mulling over a game on their iPad. To ensure that you’re playing the best, latest iOS games, we’ve tirelessly tested the best of the best apps that have come out this month to bring you our top three.
Bee Leader (.99)
We were a bit hesitant to put this on our list of “must haves,” but this game is addictive. We know that word is used a lot while reviewing gaming apps, but we mean it. Bee Leader is like Yoshi’s Story but for your iPhone instead of N64, and about bees instead of dragons. All you have to do is fly around and gather nectar in cool places like shark-infested waters and high in the sky while dodging storm clouds. There’s a ton more to the game, but once you get the hang of it, Bee Leader will definitely bump Bejeweled out of the ranking as your go-to game to play while wasting time.
Did you like Minecraft? Well now it’s back, in two-dimensional form. The Sandbox is not really Minecraft, but it definitely has similar traits to the popular game. The Sandbox is like the MS Paint game no one ever asked for but wouldn’t really mind having. You play a god and create your world after you play through a few tutorials to get a handle on what you can do in the game. It may not be something you play day after day, but it does keep your attention when you’re feeling godlike.
N.O.V.A. 3 – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance (6.99)
If we were to rank our excitement over this game, it would be equal to that for the movie Prometheus. N.O.V.A. 3 is on a whole other level when it comes to iOS graphics, and the story bleeds well into the gameplay, unlike many other FPS games. You’re able to run and shoot your way through 10 levels that take place across the galaxy and are also able to drive vehicles, which was a fun surprise to see from an FPS game designed for iOS. You can also join 12-player battles in up to six multiplayer modes (Capture the Point, Free-for-All and other generic modes) on six different maps. The best part is that while you’re in multiplayer you can hop into the same vehicle with another player so you can cover more ground.
