It seems like it’s all about the multiplayer games this month, and we love it. Here are the top gaming apps released this month for your smartphone and tablet.

Heroes of Order & Chaos

Gamers, especially those with a soft spot for multiplayer role-playing games, have been anxious for this release for quite some time and it’s finally here! Gameloft is the first company to bring MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) to mobile with their latest game, Heroes of Order & Chaos. The gameplay is flawless and the graphics are gorgeous, which helps you overlook the fact that it’s a blatant knockoff of World of Warcraft. But the development of the game was definitely a necessary step for the MOBA platform to take, since more gamers are heading for their iPads for gameplay. Players choose between 30 unique heroes and upgrade skills and equipment along the way. You’re also able to fight solo when you aren’t playing in multiplayer mode, which is a plus because it’s so addictive.

Rage of the Gladiator

The highly popular WiiWare game Rage of the Gladiator has made its way to iOS. Completely remastered to suit tablet gaming, its stunning 3D graphics and new features make it a must-have for fans of the game. Equipped with only a warhammer and shield, you play the role of Gracius, who outsmarts and battles some of the most challenging bosses ever developed. You’re able to choose between old school horizontal NES play or through motion controls if you really want to get into the gameplay. What’s great is that although Rage of the Gladiator follows the old boxing formulas (think Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! for NES), it’s still a challenge to play. We’re always wary of successful games that make their way from console to tablet, but Rage of the Gladiator proves that by tweaking what they already have and adding new features, the change can be done effectively.

SHADOWGUN: DeadZone

SHADOWGUN: DeadZone is yet another console-quality game to hit the iOS market, proving it one of the best shooter games released this year. Challenge up to 12 players online in this intense multiplayer game while you battle your way to better ranks and cooler gear like the MP Grenade, Frag Grenade, Sentry Gun and Mines to blow away your opponents. The coolest part of the game is being able to talk to your friends who are playing in a multiplayer voice chat developed by Ericsson exclusively for the game. The dialogue is a little cheesy, but it’s an easy thing to overlook when you’re playing one of the sharpest-looking games on your retina display.

Stan Lee’s Verticus

It’s about time the father of comic books made his own app game, lending his voice, iconic look and name to the game as Mission Commander in Stan Lee’s Verticus. Players free-fall through the atmosphere collecting coins and orbs while dodging mines and alien ships. The game’s look takes inspiration from many comic books Lee has developed throughout the years, with sharp colors and great design. There isn’t much to this game, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad one. The only thing we didn’t like was the constant upsell of in-game purchases after already paying for it.
