Hef's Movie Notes: Casablanca

We began these wonderful weekends with the screening of Casablanca on what was then the 50th Anniversary of the Warner Bros. classic. We run it every year as part of my birthday celebration, and it just keeps getting better “as time goes by.”

I won’t attempt to read any notes because most of us know this film almost line-for-line.

So here it is again – and here we are again – with Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Conrad Veidt, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre and all the usual suspects in the Hal Wallis/Michael Curtiz classic Casablanca

With a screenplay by the Epstein Brothers and Howard Koch. A stunning score by Max Steiner. And a song sung by Dooley Wilson that will haunt our dreams.

After the movie, champagne and caviar by candlelight – at Rick’s Café – across the hall.

So now – from 1942 – Casablanca.
