Chicago, Illinois. Chi-Town. The Windy City. The Second City. Home of the Bears, the Cubs, the Sox, the Bulls, the Blackhawks and the Bean. Boasting some of the tallest towers in the world and one of the most beautiful skylines (not to mention a beach in the heart of downtown), it is also the birthplace of the Playboy Empire.
It’s no wonder, then, that it’s also the home of the first Playboy Club, opened February 29, 1960. It’s here the legend began to grow and soon spread to almost every corner of America: Miami, New Orleans, New York and Boston; Los Angeles and San Francisco; Cincinnati, Phoenix, Kansas City, Denver and Dallas. They even made it across the pond to London, around the world to the Philippines, north of the border to Montreal and, through a serious flight of fancy, to the moon. They’ve reopened recently in Beirut and Cologne, but today let’s go back to where it all began: to the original Playboy Club and, more specifically, the Bunnies who catered to the clientele.
