From the beach to the airport, from your sleeping bag to the dock of the bay, if you want to stay connected this summer your most portable option is a tablet. As awesome as tablets are, the problem with sinking some serious dough into one is you’re left with a fantastic device for reading your e-books and visiting, but not for the serious workhorse tasks a computer can handle. The Asus Transformer Book Trio is a powerhouse laptop that turns into a tablet and can easily be connected to a monitor to be used as a desktop computer. Now all your must-have programs and data are on one device, you’re not switching between three computers and you have your to-go tablet.

Meteorologists and climate scientists are predicting summer 2014 will be the hottest on record. What’s your game plan to beat the heat? If you’re counting on pools and beaches, you’re going to need the right gear, mainly the perfect pair of swim shorts. Bulldog Chassis Orbital Print Swim Shorts are designed to be worn in and out of the water, and their tailored cut and eye-catching pattern, based on men’s suit trousers, mean you’re going to stand out to the women sunbathing on the beach. Plus you’re going to get a few summers out them as they’re built tough to stand up to the wear of chlorine and salt water.

Aviator sunglasses are perpetually in vogue, fit all face types and carry an instant cachet due to the fact that they’re literally the eyewear of fighter pilots. Get a pair to both complete your outfit and protect your eyes from this summer’s monster sun. You can stand out from the pack of men wearing their mall kiosk aviator sunglasses by picking up a pair of Dior Layered Black Tie Aviators, a unique spin on the classic Aviator. Their subtle sartorial design makes for high-fashion shades that are still manly and fitting for every ensemble.

Is it too easy to anoint as the song of the summer this new single from Calvin Harris called, simply, “Summer”? Harris is one of the highest-paid DJs in the world and producer and writer of number-one hits by top artists like Rihanna and LMFAO. He’s a musician in his own right too and he has two hit albums under his belt to prove it. His new album will be dropping soon (date TBA) and “Summer” is its first single. Expect to hear this track a lot over the next few months.

Electro-pop geniuses Röyksopp and teen pop star–turned–dance-floor queen Robyn last worked together in 2009 and now they’re back again with a new collaboration, Do it Again, the name of both their May 26th album and its first single. Together they make fun music drawing on 40 years of electronic music and radio pop to create a sound that no one else has. This new Robyn and Röyksopp joint is the music that you’re going to be putting on in 2015’s winter months to relive the memories of the wild bright times you had from June to September.

After the two synth-heavy dance music choices we’ve listed above, we’re required to pay homage to the guitar gods. To do so we’re recommending Jack White’s album Lazaretto, dropping June 10th, and its first single, also called “Lazaretto.” It’s not summer without good old rock and roll, and if the single is indicative of the entirety of White’s LP, this is the album that’s going to have the nation air-guitaring and headbanging along.

BASIL & RYE “Basil and Rye” © 2009Willrad von Doomenstein (CC BY-SA 2.0)

This cousin to the dog-day standbys of the Mojito and Julep is a bolder summer drink that allows you to get your whiskey on. This is a cocktail for a sleepy, muggy day to wake you up and get you going. Plus it’s green, so it’s healthy…right?

3 large basil leaves 1 tablespoon agave nectar 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 ½ ounces rye whiskey

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the basil, sugar and lemon juice and muddle until the basil is broken up. Add the rye and shake, then strain into a martini glass.

Are you and your bros looking for a refreshing drink that still packs a punch? Need to whip up a large batch of drinks for pregaming on the patio? The Dragoon’s Punch is where it’s at when you need to make summer drinks for a group. This Charleston classic is bracing, goes down smooth and even has a hint of caffeine to keep you powered up:

4 black tea bags 6 cups of water 8 tablespoons of sugar Half cup of rum 1 pint brandy 1/4 cup peach brandy Half cup fresh lemon juice Soda water

Boil the water, add the tea bags and let them steep for five minutes. Lose the tea bags and stir in the sugar. Add the rum, brandy, peach brandy and lemon juice, then chill the punch for an hour. Serve with ice and a splash of soda water per glass.

There’s no better mix than cold gin and hot weather, and our recommended way to get your needed dose of Vitamin G is via the Salt and Pepper Highball. It’s an easy drink to mix up and to guzzle, and if you pop a high-quality gin in there and take a moment to savor your concoction you’ll discover it’s a drink with some layers.

1 ½ ounce gin 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice 1 ounce simple syrup 3 ounce fresh grapefruit juice3 dashes bitters

Shake the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into ice-filled highball glass.

Fans of ceramic kamado-style barbecues have an almost cultlike devotion to their grills. See what the fuss is about, and maybe have a religious experience, with the Primo Ceramic Charcoal Smoker Grill. The ceramic construction keeps in the heat while also sealing in moisture and taste. The inside of the barbecue is huge so you can throw on a rack of ribs for the whole crew. The versatility of the movable grills inside means you have options—you can do some serious slow smoking on this beast or if you’re in a rush you can have perfect steak almost immediately. It’s also made in America and designed to last.

No matter how fancy your barbecue is, the little thermometer on the front will never accurately reflect the temperature of your meat on the grill. To get your steak exactly how you want it, use the iGrill Mini. Place the iGrill probe into your meat and the device will wirelessly notify you on your smartphone when it’s at the desired temperature. If you’re doing a long smoke, you can set the iGrill to notify you if your grill gets too hot or too cold. We’ve put a man on the moon, but now our technological advances have finally brought us something truly useful with the iGrill Mini.
