With the recent announcement of Kennedy Summers becoming Playmate of the Year 2014, there is no better time to revisit Playboy history... Check out the world's most beautiful women: get to know every Playmate of the Year since the very beginning.

PMOY 2014 - KENNEDY SUMMERS: Playboy Magazine's 60th anniversary PMOY is spectacular in every way. The Chicago girl, who is currently in medical school and hopes to become a surgeon, has been modeling for years and is excited to be join the Playboy family. We love her decade-themed gallery. "Doesn’t 'Dr. Playmate of the Year’ sound awesome?” she asks. It certainly does to us.

PMOY 2013 - RAQUEL POMPLUN: Playboy Magazine’s first ever Mexican-American Playmate, Raquel Pomplun, was chosen to be Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for April 2012 before being named Playmate of the Year 2013. Her gorgeous centerfold was shot by acclaimed glamour photographer Arny Freytag. Raquel comes by her good looks naturally—she was classically trained in ballet. A coworker gave her the idea to model for Playboy…and the rest is history! Raquel, who studied biochemistry in college, works often in both TV and radio.

PMOY 2012 - JACLYN SWEDBERG: Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Month for April 2011 and became the 2012 Playmate of the Year. As an actress, Miss Swedberg became known for her work in Pauly Shore’s Pauly-tics, Playboy TV’s Badass and Snake and Mongoose. Miss Swedberg also hosted a humor series for Playboy called “Hot Girls Get Away with Sh*t.” “At home I’m reserved,” she says, admitting that working with Playboy has helped her grow. “Appearing in the magazine not only made me shed my clothes but also allowed me to shed my shy exterior for good.”

PMOY 2011 - CLAIRE SINCLAIR: Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Month for October 2010 is knockout babe Claire Sinclair. Claire, whose retro style is reminiscent of Bettie Page, is both busty and brilliant—the girl is a self-professed voracious reader. Claire first posed for acclaimed pinup artist Olivia de Beradinis, and de Beradinis introduced Claire to Hugh Hefner. Shortly afterwards, Claire moved into the Bunny House with fellow PMOYs Hope Dworaczyk and Jayde Nicole for the E! special The Bunny House. On garnering the PMOY title, Claire says, “I was determined to become Playmate of the Year, and now that I have, I feel as successful as any 20-year-old could be. I’m so excited about it. I promise you that I’m going to liven it up as the pinuppiest Playmate of the Year you could ever imagine!”

PMOY 2010 - HOPE DWORACZYK: As a teen, Hope won a Texas beauty pageant, aced her accelerated studies program and graduated high school early, at 16 years old. The curvy, leggy brunette worked as a fashion model and eventually posed for Playboy Magazine, where she was named Miss April 2009. Hope rose to become Playboy’s Playmate of the Year in 2010. "I think I'm pretty down-to-earth," she says. Working internationally as a TV anchor hasn’t changed her Southern values too much. "I am such a romantic and believe in true love, but I think I can have my career as well. I really want to move into hosting something based in America, so that's in the works right now. We'll see." Miss April pauses, then adds, "I want it all."

PMOY 2009 - IDA LJUNGQVIST: Discovered by 2007 Playmate of the Year Sara Jean Underwood at a Bebe store on Rodeo Drive, this Tanzanian-Swedish beauty is the first African-born and second Swedish model to become a Playmate of the Year. “I was in shock when they asked me to pose,” she says. But she was game to give it a whirl. “I’m kind of a thrill-seeker. Throw me in! I’ll sink or swim.” Ida, who speaks English, Swedish and Swahili fluently, is the first PMOY to dedicate her title to philanthropic work.

PMOY 2008 - JAYDE NICOLE: Although she is Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Year for 2008, Jayde Nicole was initially skeptical about modeling for Playboy, but was prodded to try when her mother bought her an issue. Jayde was quickly convinced. She was named Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in January 2007. The Canadian beauty is a fitness nut...with a weakness. “I have an obsession with peanut butter and chocolate anything,” she confesses. “Anything” includes “peanut butter and chocolate cookies, peanut butter and chocolate cupcakes…” She’s appeared on MTV’s The Hills, E!’s The Girls Next Door: The Bunny House and on Holly Madison’s reality show, Holly’s World.

PMOY 2007 - SARA JEAN UNDERWOOD: Sunny blonde Sara Jean Underwood, a model, actress and TV host, was chosen to be Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for July 2006. Sara Jean was the first ever Miss July to become Playmate of the Year. A former Hooters waitress, Sara Jean has often worked in TV and film. She was on E! Network’s The Girls Next Door, on the series Kendra as well as on Bridget’s Sexiest Beaches and has appeared as herself in movies like The House Bunny and Miss March. Playboy Magazine ranked her number 25 on the list of “25 Hottest Playboy Celebrities.”

PMOY 2006 - KARA MONACO: Kara got her start with Playboy in 2004. The knockout blonde was bartending in Orlando and won the America’s Sexiest Bartender contest. She was featured in a “Girls of Summer” spread and became Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Month for June 2005. She’s had a number of roles on such TV shows as The Girls Next Door, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Big Brother 14, Passions and Envy. “I’ve had a wonderful time as a Playmate,” she says. “I’m honored to be a part of the Playboy family.”

PMOY 2005 - TIFFANY FALLON: Florida beauty Tiffany Fallon was photographed by Stephen Wayda for Playboy Magazine and became December 2004’s Playmate of the Month. In 2005 the smoldering blue-eyed brunette was named Playmate of the Year. Prior to working with Playboy, Tiffany was a cheerleader for the Atlanta Falcons. She married Joe Don Rooney from Rascal Flatts and they live together in Tennessee with their family.

PMOY 2004 - CARMELLA DECESARE: Playboy Magazine’s Miss April 2003 got her start when she responded to Playboy's Who Wants to Be a Playboy Centerfold? and eventually became Cybergirl of the Month on in February of 2003. Of Italian and Puerto Rican descent, Carmella is often recognized for the time she spent taking names in the WWE as WWE Diva. She was featured in the 2005 Playmates at Play swimsuit calendar in the month of March. Carmella has also appeared on TV episodes of The Girls Next Door and has been photographed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

PMOY 2003 - CHRISTINA SANTIAGO: Sensuous Christina Santiago is a talented model and actress who was chosen to be Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Month in August 2002. One success followed another: she went on to become Playmate of the Year in 2003. Of Puerto Rican descent, this tawny vixen from Chicago was one of three finalists on the Who Wants to Be a Playboy Centerfold? TV special. While she didn’t get the number one spot on the show, she certainly won us over with that dark mane of hair and those gorgeous curves.

PMOY 2002 - DALENE KURTIS: California girl Dalene Kurtis had dreamed of becoming a Playboy model since the tender age of 14, but she worked in insurance before turning to modeling. After competing in a few pageants and working as a Budweiser girl, she met Hugh Hefner at a Playboy party. Hef took a shine to her immediately, saying Dalene’s scrubbed good looks were reminiscent of classic beauty Doris Day. The two hit it off so well that Dalene eventually moved into the Playboy Mansion. The green-eyed beauty says, “It's hard for me to think I'm actually going to be in Playboy, because I'm so critical of myself." We don’t think anyone else was too surprised; Dalene is a natural.

PMOY 2001 - BRANDE NICOLE RODERICK: Angelic beauty Brande Roderick, a model and actress, is known for her work in Baywatch, Joey, The Parkers, Just Shoot Me!, Fear Factor and Beverly Hills, 90210 as well as in some recent films, including Starsky & Hutch, Hood of Horror and The Nanny Diaries. Brande was PlayboyMagazine’s Playmate of the Month for April 2000 and later went on to become Playmate of the Year in 2001. “Playmates have a special bond that nobody can break,” she says.

PMOY 2000 - JODI ANN PATERSON: A beauty more exotic than her name might suggest, Jodi Ann Paterson was born in Balikpapan, Indonesia, to an Indonesian mother and an American father. She later grew up in Oregon, where she aced all her academics and while competing in such beauty pageants as Miss Teen USA and Miss Oregon USA. The beauty queen garnered Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Month for October 1999 and went on to win the Playmate of the Year title in 2000.

Thanks for recognizing Joyce Nizzari and Lisa Winters as PMOYs, rather than starting the list (as Playboy usually does) with Ellen Stratton.
