Hang up those old worn jeans, we show you the best non-denim fall pants you should be checking out as the mercury begins its annual descent.
My crew and I are particularly enthused about the resurgence of tweed and corduroy pants this fall. Pulling off a pair of grown-ass pants is easy. Swap these in for your work time khakis or date night blue jeans and you are already driving a better car on the road of life.
For a modern cool guy look, you want something on the slimmer side but with some room around the calves and thighs to let the pants drape (hang) properly. Look for a waistline that hits closer to your belly button than your hips. This creates a longer leg line and will also not force anyone to look at your ass crack should you need to pick up a dropped napkin at dinner. Win.
Freemans Sporting Club cuts a very handsome model in a textured brown tweed that you can build lots and lots of outfits around. You can pair it with a button-down oxford shirt and a V-neck sweater for dates and dinners or a gray crew-neck sweatshirt for a swag Ivy League weekend look.
Another dependable option is a pair of medium wale (wale: width of the vertical bits) corduroys. Ralph Lauren Rugby makes a great model that sits well on the hips and seat but leaves you some room below the knee. At under $90, they look and feel much better than they need to. They come in red or yellow for the "go to hell" peacocks and also in navy or tan for the sensible yet assertive man.
