Playboy Retro: Star Wars Day

Today is the greatest holiday of the entire year and many don’t even seem to notice! It’s Star Wars Day, a celebration of the classic sci-fi movie series. And why was today chosen as the date to pay tribute to the greatest films ever made? Is it Luke Skywalker’s birthday? Is it the anniversary of George Lucas making his first billion dollars? No! It’s because “May the fourth” sounds similar to the Star Wars catchphrase “May the force be with you.”

This year’s Star Wars Day is particularly significant as it’s just been formally announced that the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars sequel will unite the original cast for the first time since 1983. Naturally, we want to pay proper due to this momentous holiday with all the Playboy/Star Wars connections we can find.

Unfortunately, Carrie Fisher never threw on the gold bikini outfit from Return of the Jedi for a Playboy pictorial; she did, however, don the iconic Bunny suit for a guest appearance on the sitcom Laverne and Shirley playing “Cathy,” an aspiring club Bunny who gets the privilege of waiting on, and singing for, Hugh Hefner himself!

The only Star Wars babe we've featured in the pages of Playboy is the enchanting actress Bai Ling; among her many juicy Hollywood roles was a part in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, a part cut from the theatrical release because, according to Ling, George Lucas didn't approve of her baring it all in the pages of Playboy. Lucas denies that accusation and says the cut was made purely for runtime, and her scenes were restored for the DVD release. Even if Ling lost out on Star Wars, we think she made the right choice posing for us. Check out our gallery of this scintillating woman and we’re sure you will agree!
