It’s a multitasking age, where people expect what they buy — their phone, computer or car — to cover multiple bases, and the Dodge Durango R/T fits right in. It’s designed with serious curb appeal, it’s got all the utility a truck power-user expects and it’s packed with enough power to promise a fun day at the track.
This SUV checks off all the right boxes when it comes to its trucking bona fides. It has three rows of seating, tows a best-in-class 7,400 pounds and has a rear load–leveling suspension to help balance your jet skis if you’re planning a Kenny Powers day at the beach. It also boasts four-wheel traction control, hill start assist, a power liftgate and trailer sway damping. For sport-minded drivers, the 5.7-liter Hemi engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission pumps out 360 horsepower, providing more than ample get-up-and-go. The sport suspension keeps things level in the curves, making the Durango R/T a blast on on-ramps and windy roads.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about this Dodge is how good it looks. With body-color accents on front, rear and sides, the Durango R/T makes quite an impression passing by, and the 20-inch aluminum wheels and bold grille design give this SUV a snarling attitude. Inside, the SUV’s performance aspirations are signaled in the red stitching on the black bolstered front seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel. The R/T also comes packed with all the right technology: power seats, Bluetooth, satellite radio and an inexpensive, optional GPS navigation system that’s intuitive to use.
Dodge delivers all this for a price tag under $40,000. Not too shabby for a Swiss Army knife of an SUV.
