With the polar vortex almost gone for good, all of those spring and summer weddings are almost upon us! Ditch your lame old tie and invest in a handmade necktie. One design house of note is New England’s General Knot & Co., which creates limited-edition handmade neckwear and accessories using vintage and dead stock fabrics dating as far back as the 1940s. We’re really enjoying their spring collection full of vibrant colors, floral patterns and dark tones for more formal events. Each piece is handcrafted in the United States and goes for an average of $90. See all of their lines on GeneralKnot.com.
No pressure, but the future is here. Like right now. Since we saw wireless chargers heavily integrated at the CES 2012 booths, we’ve been very excited for them to hit the market in a big (and affordable) way. Enter Glowdeck. It’s got everything you’d want from a wireless charger and it looks sharp to boot. It lets you play music, take calls with Bluetooth and even control it with vocal commands, and the under glow is also customizable for notifications and even rave-centric light shows to your music. The Glowdeck comes in four finishes and goes for upwards of $200. Find out more on Kickstarter.com.
Volume One and Volume Two of Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac are now available on iTunes/OnDemand for your viewing pleasure. Starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin, Shia LaBeouf and Christian Slater, this steamy second installment hits theaters on April 4 but is available online now. Writes acclaimed film reviewer Stephen Rebello,“Don’t rush to Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier’s latest cinematic provocation expecting a cheap erotic thrill or two, because the director’s saga about a nymphomaniac named Joe is anything but. Very funny, wacky, cringe-inducing, twisted, troubling and graphic, yes, but sexy? No.” He adds, “The sardonic, slow-burn movie gives us Charlotte Gainsbourg, in a deeply inscrutable performance, as a woman who relentlessly and desperately pursues sex the way a junkie chases the high, without gaining much pleasure or insight from it.” Rebello gave the controversial film three out of four stars, making it a definite must-see for cinephiles.
