Up in Smoke: The Sexy Side of Interior Design

It’s no secret that men and women are wired differently when it comes to sex. Women tend to enjoy being eased and teased into it, while men can be ready to have at it at the drop of a hat. According to Dulex and The Mindlab International Laboratory at Sussex University, a newly decorated room can have a surprising effect on a woman. Dr. David Lewis, a key figure on the study, found that some women can find decorating a room as pleasurable as sex.

Researchers presented a group of people with a series of scenarios like driving a fast car, eating chocolate and having sex, along with other common activities. The group was then asked to rate their emotional response to the stimulation they receive when performing them. For women, the emotions experienced from decorating a room appeared to be on par with feelings associated with sex.

“It may surprise some people to realize that a newly re-decorated room can have such an impact on emotions,” explained Dr. David Lewis. “Think of how you feel on a warm sunny day in comparison to a grey winter morning. Our homes are the same—a beautifully decorated room can significantly enhance your mood.”

So the next time you want to invite your girlfriend over for a passionate night of love making, maybe have some interior decorating projects prepared for her when she arrives.
