![]() Posing on Malibu Beach, age 17 |
Although my parents were supportive about the various activities that I was involved in, they were adamant that I maintain good grades. High school was a little difficult for me at first because my family relocated from Malibu to Virginia halfway through my freshman year. I volunteered to attend a Catholic school (I had attended a public school in Malibu) to make my mom happy, but the downside was that I had to grow accustomed to being constantly surrounded by saddle shoes. I would get in trouble for acting like the class clown by wearing my skirts too low or extremely high. I also tended to be a little rebellious and speak my mind about whatever I felt -- sometimes perhaps too much. Many of the students didn't accept outsiders; what made it worse is that the girls didn't approve of me because the majority of the boys liked me. But I didn't let that bother me: I wanted to be friends with girls who were unpretentious instead of being a part of a cliquish crowd. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
