Raquel Pomplun, Miss April 2012, became Playboy’s first Mexican-American Playmate of the Year in 2013. This bilingual beauty was born in San Diego, California, and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. She moved to Chula Vista, California, when she was 12, where she excelled in math and science programs and modeled on the side. “I can solve almost any math problem,” she told Playboy.
Raquel went on to study biochemistry at the University of California, and plans to put her earnings as a Playmate toward an advanced degree in biochemical engineering.
Raquel had always wanted to pose for Playboy, so she submitted photos to a casting agent. Two weeks later, Playboy called her in for a test shoot and named her Miss April. Raquel appeared on the cover of the 2012 Sex & Music issue next to neo-soul sensation Bruno Mars, who was left with a bit of a crush on Miss Pomplun. “I’m holding out for a date with Pitbull,” she joked.
Modeling for Playboy was Raquel’s first time posing nude, but her parents are open-minded and supported her career decision. “My mom is very proud,” she said.
Raquel Pomplun also works as a “fight jock” at BlackBelt TV. As Rockin’ Raquel, she presents fights and mixed martial arts movies from around the world. She co-hosts the “Mansion Mayhem” show at Playboy Radio. In 2014 she played herself on an episode of Friends with Better Lives, and she has acted in the movies Snake and Mongoose, Last Vegas, The Gambler, The Taker, and The Martini Shot.
Her interests include music, motorcycles, and authentic Mexican cooking. “My chiles rellenos are famous,” she said. Raquel’s passion for dance, including classical ballet, earned her a spot as one of the Playmate Dancers. Her turn-ons include men who’ll join her on the dance floor. “I think it’s sexy when a man can dance. Show me your moves!”
