Sandra Nilsson is Playboy’s Miss January 2008. Sandra was raised in Ystad, a coastal town in the south of Sweden. “My village has one traffic light,” she said. “It has a very different pace, a completely different style of life than that of America.”
She was recruited to model at 14 during a family trip to Paris, but her parents thought she was too young. When she turned 18 she signed with an agency and moved to Malmö, where she modeled for some of Sweden’s biggest brands and was a contestant on Sweden’s Next Top Model. She entered beauty contests throughout the European Union and rose to international fame when she was named Miss Hawaiian Tropic for Sweden. Over the next two years she traveled the world and was featured in ads, commercials, and billboards as a representative of the brand. She landed a gig on the Travel Channel and was named Sweden’s 7th Sexiest Woman. Hugh Hefner’s brother, Keith, spotted Sandra at a party during the Cannes Film Festival and invited her to Los Angeles to test for Playmate. She passed the test. Hef approved her centerfold for the January issue.
“I’m very glad I made the decision to pose,” she said. “So far it has been the best thing that ever happened to me. It has already opened so many doors.”
Sandra moved to New York City to pursue a career as a model and actress. She’s appeared on The Howard Stern Show and red carpets all over town. When she’s not working, she loves to read, ride horses, cook vegetarian food, and rack up long distance charges with her mom. “I love New York,” Sandra said, with a charming Swedish accent. “Americans have a great sense of imagination. I don’t think I’ll be moving back to Sweden anytime soon.”
What kind of men does Sandra Nilsson like? “It doesn’t matter what country a man is from or what industry he’s in, as long as he has a good personality and he trusts me,” she said. “You need trust for a relationship to work. When I was younger I liked beautiful model-type guys, but I don’t think that matters anymore. What is inside is the most attractive.”
