About Scarlett Johansson
Sultry screen star Scarlett Johansson was born Nov. 22, 1984 in New York City to Karsten Johansson, a Danish-born architect, and Melanie Sloan, a Jewish producer. Scarlett started acting at an early age, appearing in an off-Broadway production opposite Ethan Hawke at age eight. At nine she made her film debut as John Ritter’s daughter in Rob Reiner’s North. “I remember going onto the set of my first film and, for some reason, I just knew what to do, instinctively,” she told New York Magazine. “It was like, I don’t know … fate.”
More roles for the young starlet followed, including Manny & Lo and The Horse Whisperer. In 2003, Scarlett, fresh from high school graduation, busted onto the Hollywood A-list with two Golden Globe-nominated roles in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring. A wide variety of film roles followed, including in Match Point, The Black Dahlia, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Nanny Diaries, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
In 2006 Scarlett posed nude with Keira Knightley, and a clothed Tom Ford, for the cover of Vanity Fair. She took up new challenges in the years that followed—first by recording her own album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” and then by returning to the stage in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge, for which she won a Tony. Scarlett’s big-screen hits continued with Iron Man 2, The Avengers, the voice of Samantha in Her, and 2014’s Lucy.
Of course, it’s not just her acting abilities that get her noticed. Esquire magazine twice named her “Sexiest Woman Alive.” She’s been on Maxim’s Hot 100 list since 2006. Playboy named her the “Sexiest Celebrity” of the year in 2007. And Men’s Health has named her one of the “100 Hottest Women of All Time.”
Scarlett has a daughter with French journalist Romain Dauriac, whom she married in 2012. She was married to Ryan Reynolds from 2007 and 2010 and previously dated Nate Naylor, Sean Penn, Josh Hartnett, and Jared Leto.
