About Shanna Moakler
Shanna Moakler was named Playmate of the Month in December 2001. The Providence, Rhode Island native began her modeling career at the age of 15 and appeared in various publications including Cosmopolitan and Brentwood. When she was 17 she represented Rhode Island in the Miss Teen USA pageant. At 19 she was named Miss New York. She caught a lucky break, thanks to another girl’s pageant victory. “I was first runner-up for Miss USA, and I remember watching the girl who beat me win Miss Universe on TV,” she said. “My phone started ringing. I inherited her crown and had to move to Los Angeles.”
The move to L.A. was good for Shanna’s career. In 1998 she got her acting break playing Officer Monica Harper, a rookie cop on the TV series Pacific Blue. “I was like Heather Locklear on Melrose Place – the naughty one,” she told Playboy. “I got to do things I wouldn’t normally do in everyday life.” Shanna’s many credits include the movies The Wedding Singer, Love Stinks, Big Momma’s House 2 and episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Entourage and NCIS. In 2006 she danced on Dancing with the Stars. She hosted Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants and appeared on The Real World, Hollywood Lives and The Great Debate.
From 2005 to 2006 Shanna starred in her own reality TV show, Meet the Barkers, with her then-husband Travis Barker, drummer for the band Blink-182. Her previous relationships include former fiancé Oscar De La Hoya, actor Dennis Quaid and rocker Billy Idol. She has three children, one with De La Hoya and two with Barker. In January 2014 she joined the cast of Hollywood Exes. In addition to her acting and reality TV appearances, Shanna runs her own cosmetics company, SMOAK Cosmetics and is active on social media.
When not working and raising her family, Shanna has given time and money to the Special Olympics, an organization that is very important to her. “I was a professional roller skater for 10 years, and I would volunteer at the rink to teach these kids to skate,” she says. “I got to work with these amazing families who were told their children would never run or laugh. I got to witness miracle after miracle. If I wasn’t acting, I would love to work in a hospital with newborns in the nursery or doing ultrasounds.” Shanna also cares deeply for animals and has posed for PETA’s anti-fur campaign.
