About Stephanie Seymour

Supermodel Stephanie Seymour was born July 23, 1968 in San Diego. Her mother, a hair stylist, helped inspire her interest in modeling. “When I was really young, she would say to me, ‘One day, you’re going to be an Estée Lauder model just like Karen Graham,’” Stephanie told Vogue. “So later on, when I was modeling, that became the pinnacle for me.”

Stephanie began her modeling career at age 16, doing local advertising work. In 1983 she was a finalist in the inaugural Elite Model Management Look of the Year modeling contest and launched her national and international career. She made her first magazine appearance in Cosmo.

“They would take a picture of a girl and then write something like, ‘How do you have the best orgasm?’ or ‘How do you get your hair as big as you want it?’” Stephanie told Interview magazine. “I was the picture of a girl with big hair.”

Stephanie quickly found success, landing on the cover of numerous magazines, including Vogue and Vanity Fair, modeling for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editions and Victoria’s Secret and appearing multiple times in Playboy pictorials. She also tried her hand at acting, appearing in the “Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller” video game as well as movies Pollock and More than Chance.

Stephanie has been named a “Modern Muse” by Vogue and listed on the FHM 100 Sexiest Women list. She wrote a book and has been a contributing fashion editor to Interview magazine.

Stephanie has also gained attention with her romantic life, starting at age 16 when she began dating John Casablancas, the head of Elite Model Management. She was married to guitarist Tommy Andrews from 1989 to 1990 and had son Dylan Thomas Andrews in 1990. In the early 90s she began dating Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose, appearing in two of the bands videos. The relationship was tumultuous.

“Getting involved with Axl Rose? Clearly a mistake,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “It taught me a lot, though. He was a violent person, and I realized I never wanted to be around that again. The thrill of the whole rock 'n roll thing wore off. I saw the worst of that world, and it soured me.”

She married billionaire Peter Brant in 1995, and had three more children with Brant—Peter II in 1993, Harry in 1996, and Lily Margaret in 2004.
