The Standard Spa, the newest den of urban cool in André Balazs's trendy hotel empire, is located on a small island off Miami Beach. Inside, the lauded hotelier's
first wellness center knows a little bit about how men operate. The spa caters to the same male instincts that prevent us from asking for directions or our inability to politely
shoo off pesky salespersons at Banana Republic: We'd rather just do it ourselves. A 15-page spa menu explains the do-it-yourself options and all treatments here, all of
which call on the grand traditions of Russian, Turkish and Roman baths, playing up the curative effects of water, steam and mud. There's a Hamam or Turkish bath, an
aroma steam room, a cedar sauna, a sound pool, a Roman waterfall hot tub and a mud lounge; the list goes on and on. Unsure where to start? Go all Ottoman Empire with
the Turkish Hamam Rub and Scrub, a bath on the heated marble of the Hamam followed by an exfoliation, stretch and massage. You'll walk out feeling like Constantine.
