True, Killington might be a few flakes short of a Western powder picnic. But whatever the Big K lacks in natural gifts from the sky, it easily offsets with a killer nightlife, steep bumps and one of the country's longest ski seasons. We'll start with the legendary Killington access road, a four-mile stretch of free-flowing liquor and free wings every afternoon; along with Vermont microbrews, a potent Goombay Smash is the local poison. On the mountain -- er, mountains, as there are seven -- skiers and riders spread out across 1,215 acres. Rent a condo at the base area and rise early to drop into Big Dipper, Anarchy and Julio, three glades off Killington Peak that scare off tourists and keep the snow fresh. Vermont's snowiest month is in March, but thanks to an arsenal of 1,435 snow guns, Killington fires up in November and shuts down sometime in mid-April or later. For every weekend in between, chances are you'll find one of New England's best parties here.
Found on Bear Mountain, Outer Limits has one of the longest and steepest mogul fields in the country. Practice your bumps to enter the Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge in March, the site of one of Killington's biggest spring blowouts.
Every year since its opening in 1963, the Wobbly Barn gets a bit wobblier, thanks to ski-boot stomping, beer-spilling ski bums and bunnies. Try to hit the opening Halloween party or the closing miniskirt party.
