On the Fly

"It is not easy to tell one exactly how to fish with the fly," the late Charles Orvis declared in 1883. In 2007, it is even more difficult. Again showing his hot hand for the outdoors, Perkins established a fly fishing school in 1966, the first of its kind, to teach the nearly lost art. Presently Orvis offers two-day fishing schools ($470 per person) at 10 locations around the country. And despite all the services the company offers, fly fishing still makes up 60 percent of its business.
