The 1966-67 Olds Toronado is not technically a muscle car, but with that monster 425/385 V-8, this elegant, Cord 810-inspired, front-drive, pioneer coupe still has a remarkably contemporary look. It's blazingly fast, until you ask it to corner quickly. Good examples are still available between $33,900-to-$42,000, but we bet they won't be there for much longer. The Toro's Cadillac counterpart was the early front-drive Eldorado, but the "Youngmobile" is the one to have, especially the first-year '66 with its Art Deco, drilled hubcaps, straight-bar grille and slotted, disappearing headlights. They were only offered as twp-door hardtops with automatics. Jay Leno hot-rodded one with a twin-turbo, 572-cid GM Performance big-block, said to develop over 850-bhp. But we'd prefer a nicely-preserved original. So will you. |
