Chrysler's "Forward Look" styling was never better exemplified than in the 1957 Plymouth. "Suddenly it's 1960!" the ads roared, and the former wallflower cheapo Plymouth brand began to look like Cinderella at the ball. Instead of a highly desirable Plymouth Fury, look for a 2-door Belvedere coupe with a 318/290 V-8. They're about $40K. They've got bold styling, discrete fins and they skip the anodized aluminum side cladding for a much cleaner appearance. If you edge into the 1960s, Plymouth deals can be found, but the 426 "Max Wedge" will triple the value of anything you find, so be forewarned. Sure, Barracudas and Roadrunners were street hot dogs. If you think Belvedere instead of the more expensive Plymouth Satellite, you can definitely save money. Remember: Doubling the doors can often halve the price. You'll still have a cool old car, and you can take your friends along. |
