Metal Gear Solid 4
From: Konami
For: PlayStation 3

Interactive spy thrillers are a dime a dozen. Ones that raise philosophical questions about the nature of war itself, feature biomechanical weapons capable of razing entire nations, and feature an aging hero with a wild white mullet? Not so much. But then famed designer Hideo Kojima's never been one to follow the road well-traveled.

The latest episode in the best-selling Metal Gear franchise is a singularly mind-expanding outing, sending older, more grizzled hero Solid Snake on his most life-threatening mission yet. A former ally's gone wild, amassing a private army strong enough to threaten not only individual continents, but the very world. Only you -- a lone elite operative -- can stop him. With help from familiar faces (such as former series headliner Raiden), gamers use stealth and submachine gun alike to tiptoe past guards, blend in with surroundings and knife or neutralize unsuspecting sentries.

In keeping with predecessors, expect a typically bizarre storyline flush with complex characters and unforeseen plot twists. Not to mention an explosive cocktail of stealth-based encounters and military mayhem, as well as what's arguably the most compelling reason yet to invest in the ultra-pricey PlayStation 3.
