Jag's XJ is the classic luxury touring sedan. To the casual observer, it looks pretty much the same year after year. But to the careful connoisseur, the latest edition now has a considerably sleeker, sexier line. The nose and rear end on recent models appeared abrupt and chopped off, and the new rounder edges give the XJ a smoother look. The Super V8 is about five inches longer than the regular model, and the added length gives it an even more regal profile.
If you're gonna get a Jag, you have to get the shag. Our Super V8 tester's shearling floor mats were ridiculously comfy. We loved the cool, clean little analog clock mounted in the dash, the dual video monitors in the back of the front seat headrests and the rear seat's elegant fold-out writing desks. For more than 90 large, though, we would have liked a double sunroof and a rear-view camera, which come standard in some cars about half the price.
We've been waiting for a while to get behind the wheel of this ferocious Jag, and when we finally landed a tester it felt like we'd hopped into a suite at the Four Seasons strapped to a top-fuel dragster. The supercharged, 4.2-liter V8 pumps out 390 horses and goes zip to 60 in five seconds, topping out at 155, just in case you're late for that crucial Board of Directors meeting and your Lear is in the shop. Even though it's long, low and lean, it's battleship big and not all that fun to maneuver in tight spots.
Designed for women who like a piece of class to haul ass.
