About Syd Wilder

Actress and comedian Syd Wilder was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She started acting in theater productions at 12, and also pursued modeling, singing, and competition cheerleading. She even won a National Cheerleading Championship title on ESPN while cheering for the Georgia Allstars.

“I started out modeling at 13 and grew tired of it by 14, and then I wanted to write songs and become a country singer. I almost moved to Nashville because I was offered a record contract at a smaller label, and my mom declined because it was a five-year contract and thought I was too young,” Syd told Examiner.com.

Syd graduated early from high school and relocated to Los Angeles with her family. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and also took improv classes with Upright Citizen’s Brigade (UCB), Second City, and The Groundlings.

She made her TV debut in a comedy sketch for the Jay Leno Show, playing Bristol Palin. She appeared in the TV movie Piranhaconda and on the series Tosh.0. She also did stand-up but quit in favor of YouTube videos.

“I retired [from stand-up] just because I got over waiting till midnight or 1 a.m. to finish my set. The lifestyle is a little too much for me. The next morning I have to wake up and go to an audition,” Syd told Man Cave. “I was like, ‘Okay, what’s my edge? My sister’s in porn,’ and I became a promoter of my sister’s career. People were more fascinated with that than what I could do with my talent. So my videos showcase that, and I don’t have to invite 20 people to a show and hope that two come up. I can get millions of views and not make anyone pay a cover charge. That worked out better in my favor.”

Syd gained a huge following on YouTube and through the site Funny or Die. Her videos led to other work including parts in Seth Rogen’s This Is the End, Wingman Inc., and Night of the Living Deb.

Her looks have also gained attention. She’s been named one of the 10 hottest women on YouTube by Playboy, and been featured as an SI lovely lady of the day.

When it comes to life mottos, Syd told Viva Glam magazine, “I know it sounds cliché, but really, never give up on your dreams! I’m still here in LA, still going strong after many years. If you want something badly enough, never stop going after it!”
