The synthetic drug MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or molly, was legal in the United States until 1985. Today it is popularly considered a party drug, but its former, pre-scheduling use as a potential medical substance is resurfacing with FDA-approved studies. However, MDMA is still illegal, and there are recommended guidelines for consuming it in a responsible manner.
