Luna Piombanti
Luna Piombanti has been arrested “like 1,000 times.” She laughs as she explains the Gasht-e Ershad, widely known as Iran’s morality police. Her stilted titter acknowledges the absurdity of living under the regime.
Piombanti arrived in Italy when she was 21 and enrolled in a painting program. “I wanted to have the naked body in front of me for the first time,” Piombanti says. “Of course, when I
was in Iran, I felt guilt. All the feelings that they want you to feel [about nudity].” But she felt a deep connection with her body and the autonomy involved in displaying it. That’s why she decided to model. “Being naked is really natural. It comes natural to me,” she says, her smile widening with pride. “But it’s such a paradox for those who live in Iran.”
